In a comprehensive report and analysis provided this week to the General Assembly and Lamont administration, a plan to overhaul Connecticut’s inefficient and inequitable property tax system was offered by a coalition of current and former elected and fiscal officials, who urged action during the 2022 legislative session.

For nearly two years, the state and federal governments have been trying to help people make it through the pandemic with new programs and aid. Now, as inflation rises and the COVID threat decreases, the best thing we can do to help is cut taxes for Connecticut’s working and middle class.

As policy makers, it is our obligation to consider all possible ideas for improving the quality of life of those we represent. Too often there is a visceral, negative reaction when the word “regionalization” comes up.

“Going Big” is the economic revival strategy that Connecticut needs to rescue our state’s small businesses, especially family-owned restaurants, mom-and-pop food services, family-operated motels, bars and other segments of the locally-owned hospitality sector.

Just two days before the start of the legislative session, progressive lawmakers and community organizers went after Connecticut’s wealthiest residents, issuing 11 policy recommendations that include a “millionaires’ tax” on individual income in excess of $500,000 a year.
